Morgan Point Lighthouse -Noank,CT-- The federal government decided to build a light house at Morgan Point in 1831 to help mariners enter the Mystic River and the harbor of Noank Connecticut, from Fisher's Island Sound. First Lighthouse was 25 foot white granite tower with a separate 6 room stone keeper's house. Tower held 10 lamps and reflectors. Ezra & Eliza Daboll was the first keeper, Ezra died in 1838, they had 6 children. Eliza remained keeper til 1854.There were complaints that the Morgan point's light was to dim , the situation was improved somewhat in 1855 when a sixth- order Fresnel lens replaced the old array of lamps and reflectors. Captain Silas Spicer became keeper in 1850's. Construction for a new lighthouse began in 1867 and was finished in 1868 it was a two -story , eight-room granite structure with a cast-iron light tower attached to the front of the roof. it was built under the supervision of Henry Davis (later became the U.S. Assistant Superintendent of Lifesaving Stations). The second female light keeper Frances McDonald who took over for her husband Alexander( a Civil War veteran). She kept the light from 1869 to 1871. Frances brother Thaddeus Pecor (civil War veteran) replaced her. He served 48 years at the light station. In 1921 the light was discontinued and replaced by an automatic light to the east on Cooks Ledge. The lighthouse was sold and is now used as a private residents.
